Telegram channels & groups

Post to Telegram channels and groups, manage comments and personal DMs, run agents — by adding the Nimply bot as an admin

What it does

Telegram is a full channel in Nimply, not just a notification target:

  • Publish to a channel or group from the planner — text, photos, videos, GIFs, documents, albums of up to 10 items, polls — with URL buttons under the post, silent delivery, protected content, link-preview control, pin-after-publish and an auto-delete timer.
  • Edit or remove a post after it is live (Telegram is the only platform where this works through the API).
  • Inbox: comments under your posts (through the channel's discussion group), group messages and reactions land in the unified inbox; reply, delete, mute a member for 24 hours, or ban them.
  • Personal DMs (Telegram Business, needs Telegram Premium on the account): route the chats you choose from your own Telegram account to the inbox and let agents draft or answer as you.
  • Agents & automations: the Community Moderator, the DM agents (Customer Support, Sales Lead, Personal DM) and the Telegram Channel Editor bind to Telegram; automations get join-request, member-joined/left triggers and approve/decline, mute/ban and send-message actions.
  • Analytics show members, joins and leaves by invite link, reactions and comments per post. Views and reach are not exposed by Telegram's Bot API — they stay in Telegram's built-in statistics.

Connect a channel or group

You need the OWNER or ADMIN role in the workspace and admin rights on the Telegram chat. No bot creation, no tokens.

  1. In Nimply, go to Channels → Connect → Telegram → Telegram Channel or Group and click Open Telegram.
  2. Press Start in the chat with the Nimply bot. It replies with Add to a channel and Add to a group buttons.
  3. Pick the chat. Telegram asks which admin rights to grant — keep the pre-selected ones (post, edit, delete, pin, invite users).
  4. Back in Nimply the chat appears with a rights checklist. Click Connect.

If Nimply doesn't detect the chat within a minute, post /connect CODE (the code shown in Nimply) in the chat.

Comments: if the channel has a discussion group, add the bot to that group too (Nimply shows an Add bot to comments group link on the channel page). Comments arrive in the inbox only from groups the bot is in.

Connect your personal DMs (Telegram Business)

  1. Channels → Connect → Telegram → Telegram Business and press Start in the bot chat.
  2. In Telegram: Settings → Telegram Business → Chatbots (this needs Telegram Premium on your account; Telegram is gradually rolling out a free Settings → Chat Automation entry that does the same), choose the Nimply bot, and select which chats it may handle. We recommend New chats only and Exclude contacts.
  3. Telegram confirms the connection to Nimply automatically; click Connect my DMs.

Replies go out from your own account and only in chats active within the last 24 hours. The first automatic reply an agent sends in a conversation tells the person they are talking to an assistant.

Troubleshooting

  • "The Nimply bot is no longer an administrator" — someone removed the bot or its post right. Add it back as an admin; the channel reconnects automatically.
  • Comments don't show up — the bot is not in the discussion group. Use the link on the channel page.
  • "Telegram no longer lets the connected bot reply" — the 24-hour window since the person's last message has passed, or the chat is outside the scope you chose in Telegram Business. Reply from your Telegram app, or wait for them to write again.
  • Pin failed — grant the bot the Edit messages (channels) or Pin messages (groups) right.
